About Meadowbeck Shepherd's Huts

A relaxing escape on the Yorkshire Coast. Located within the glorious North York Moors National Park, the area is popular with keen walkers, wildlife enthusiasts, cyclists and those seeking a peaceful escape by the sea. Within a ten minute drive of the beach and a short stroll to the nearest bus stop taking you to Scarborough and Whitby, via Robin Hoods Bay. The site is set on a ten acre smallholding, so you'll be living here with the resident animals including donkeys, goats, chickens/cockerel, ducks, dogs and Ryland sheep! All of the huts are perfect for a romantic break, each sleeping up to two in a double bed - they are also popular with solo travellers. They come fully furnished with a wood burning stove to keep you cosy, a basket of firewood and double-aspect windows. The pet free shepherd's huts sit side by side in the meadow and are both off-grid. They include a wood burning stove, padded seating bench, along with a kitchen area, sink, pots and pans. Each hut has a campfire area and use of a hammock. There is an eco loo onsite, shared between the two huts. Private standard toilets are a five minute walk away from the huts and located in the barn known as 'The Scratching Shed', which also includes a shower with hot and cold water, kettle, sink, microwave, and fridge - these facilities are shared with just the other off-grid hut. The Barn also includes a guest games room area with TV and sofas. Shepherd's Watch is pet friendly and fully equipped with electricity. It has an enclosed garden and its own private toilet/wet room attached to the rear. This hut has a TV, two ring stove, mini fridge and toaster. This hut is closer to the cottages and parking is directly outside. It is elevated with a decked area, where you can sit out and enjoy the views. Everyone will have access to the communal facilities too. 'The Scratching Shed' offers WiFi, a pool table, bar football, a dart board, a gaming table, board games, a TV and cosy sofas. There is also a washer/dryer, iron and ironing board. The site also offers EV charging for an extra fee. All of the huts enjoy glorious countryside views, perfect for unwinding with your morning brew. The area is also famed for its dark skies, making it perfect for star gazing, though a torch is recommended for getting around at night. Pets are welcome on request. Please note, there is a maximum of one large dog or two small dogs.

Meadowbeck Shepherd's Huts is open all year round.

A note from the site themselves...

We love living within the North York Moors, the wide open spaces and being surrounded by nature, lifts our hearts. We are passionate about the environment and keep all our meadows organic and have planted wildflower areas. Our water is provided by a natural spring, our heating by a biomass boiler (wood log burner) and we have installed solar panels.

We care for a menagerie of animals - donkeys, goats, sheep, dogs, ducks, chickens - which are all part of our family and delight many of our guests with their antics. Being here is good for the soul and we hope visitors have the same sense of well-being from the beautiful surroundings and local wildlife.

Shepherd's Hut - Shepherd's Huts (Pet Free)Oct 2024

An absolutely amazing Shepherds Hut. It was lovely and cosy, it had everything you'd need. Lisa and Graham were perfect hosts, they made you feel very welcome. It was a great location and I will definitely be back. I highly recommend.

Shepherd's Hut - Shepherd's Watch (Pet Friendly)Aug 2024

A warm and friendly reception from Lisa and Graham, and also throughout our stay. We stayed in the Shepherd's Watch, which is ideal if you have dogs as there is a private area fenced off. Only downside was the decking which had widely spaced wooden slats which our small dogs feet kept falling through. If you have small dogs, take something to put down for them to walk on and problem solved (we used dog blankets we had with us). The hut was immaculate with everything catered for and the wet room at the back of the hut was a brilliant edition. Location is good, with Boggle Bay (about 5 mins drive) and Whitby (about 15 mins drive) just up the road and further along, Sandsend, which is stunning. A great beach, woodland walk and fabulous places to eat - would strongly recommend. There is an Aldi, Sainsbury's and B&M about 10 mins drive away for essentials. Was sad to see the pub, which was just a few mins walk away, was closed. Hopefully it will reopen. Don't forget midge spray! We did much to our detriment (Avon 'skin so soft' is brilliant). This is a great site, especially if you have dogs as there is a lovely walk through the fields and down to the river.

Lovely break

Shepherd's Hut - Shepherd's Watch (Pet Friendly)Jul 2024

My partner had booked this for my birthday as I was desperate to get away and wanted somewhere peaceful as I am pregnant. This place definitely hit the spot! We took our puppy with us, who absolutely loved every minute of it as well. The shepherd's hut is all enclosed with loads of outdoor space for your dog to play. We were very lucky with the weather so managed to use the hammock, which was a nice touch. The shepherds hut was lovely and clean, had everything we needed and was so peaceful. There's a little double hob oven, we had bacon and sausages for breakfast but ate out the rest of the day, but there are BBQ facilities as well if you did want them. The onsite bar is very good as well, there is a honesty box if you take a drink or anything which is a nice added touch. We did say we'd have a game of pool but we didn't get round to it. The bar is also pet friendly. As it was my birthday, we booked a meal down the road at The Falcon, definitely recommend trying this restaurant. The food was gorgeous, which added to our stay. My partner proposed to me while we were away, so it has made the break even more special. Already looking to return next year as a family of 3 and the pooch of course! Thank you for making our break so special
