About Living Room Treehouses

The six off-grid and well spaced treehouses are located 8 miles from the bustling market town of Machynlleth, on a traditional Welsh sheep farm, in a hidden valley on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It's a stunning landscape. Built with sustainably harvested wood (mostly sourced locally) up to 30ft high in the tree canopy of the oak, larch and Scots pine woodland, these are genuine treehouses. You won't find any stilts here! Named Hengoed, Gwdy Hw, Lofty, Ty Mawr, Bryn Meurig Bach, and Pen y Bryn, each treehouse is open-plan, divided into separate areas for living and sleeping. The living area has a fully equipped kitchen with 2/4-burner gas hob, seating/dining area and lovely woodburning stove, while the sleeping area has a comfy double bed, and fold-down bunk beds for little ones. There's also a day-bed for a third child, if required. The treehouses also have ensuite compost toilets, lovely forest showers (heated by your woodburner) and lots of eco-technology, including solar panels and even a water powered fridge. Outside, there's a deck with a craftsmen-made dining table and chairs, perfect for al-fresco dining in the tree canopy! All water is suitable to drink - coming from the site's own mountain spring, passing through particulate filters and out of your taps and shower. Linen and toiletries are supplied, but you should bring your own towels. There's no mains electricity, but lanterns, fairy lights and tea lights will help to make your stay even more romantic and peaceful! Sorry, no dogs - but there is a farmhouse kennels just 2 miles away.

Living Room Treehouses is open from 31/01 to 21/12.

A note from the site themselves...

We are Mark, Julia, Debbie, John and Gill - and we have had great fun designing and building these unique treehouses in this beautiful woodland in mid-Wales.

We are deep in the heart of the Dyfi Valley - a biosphere so special that it is recognised and protected by UNESCO.

Our woods are "Fron Fawr" and are a wonderful mix of Oak, Larch and Scots Pine trees, mosses, bluebells and ferns, alongside rushing mountain streams.

The woods are home to hares, rabbits, badgers, buzzards, red kites - and an exciting range of meadow and woodland birds.

We have otters living in the stream, foxes passing through, and rare mountain sheep close by.

This is a breathtakingly beautiful place, unspoilt, remote, peaceful and inspiring.

If you choose to come to stay we aim to give you an experience that you will always remember.

Yes, the treehouses were crafted using sustainable and harvested wood, with furnishings made from bone-oak and the water comes from the site's mountain spring - through particulate filters going straight to your shower and taps! All cleaning products are eco-friendly including shampoo, washing up liquid and soap and the launderette is solar powered.

All treehouses sleep up to a family of 4-5, with each woodland retreat here equipped with a double bed, two single bunk beds and an additional day bed for a third child, if required. The surrounding woodland is ideal for family trips out, with a number of local walks and streams for the little ones to play in, or further afield you can explore King Arthur's Labyrinth (12.4 miles), laze on Aberdyfi Beach (18 miles) or pop in to the Centre for Alternative Technology (9.6 miles).

There are gorgeous local walks, streams to play in, and woods to explore. Many guests prefer to do very little, staying close to the treehouses and enjoying the experience of life in the trees - however, there are plenty of local attractions too.

The treehouses are close to wonderful walking and mountain bike trails, and glorious sandy beaches.

The fascinating Centre for Alternative Technology is nearby too, as is King Arthur's Labyrinth and many other great places to visit.

Other great spots to explore around Machynlleth include:

  • Beaches of Aberdyfi and Ynyslas
  • Cadair Idris mountain
  • Dyfi Osprey Project
  • MOMA Art Gallery Machynlleth
  • RSPB Ynys Hir Nature Reserve
  • Dyfi Valley Bioshere
  • Corris Mine Explorers
