Things to do on site and in the Child Okeford area
Onsite there are two small lakes which are home to the sites friendly ducks and are ideal for fishing and there's also a small childrens play area, a small wildlife hut and a bird hide....not to mention rope swings, relaxing hammocks and very friendly roaming peacocks!
If you can tear the kids away from the on-site dens, trails, football goals, swingball and rope swings, then a walk up to the top of Hambledon Hill (an old Iron Age hill fort) is thoroughly recommended for the great views and also as another way to wear them out. Or take a leisurely walk along footpaths into the village to the local shop, pubs and organic farm shop.
For those wanting to venture further afield then there are a host of places to see and visit within easy travelling distance including Monkey World, Longleat, the Tank Museum, fossil hunting along the Jurassic coast, a day paddling in the sea, or building sandcastles at the stunning beaches of Weymouth, Bournemouth and Sandbanks.
Back on site, take relaxation to another level in one of the hammocks in the pond area (locked at night for peace of mind) or sit and watch as a barn owl silently patrols the site, before making a campfire and watching for shooting stars under some of the darkest skies you are likely to see.
Nature and wildlife is very important here, with opportunities to see bug barns, bee hotels and hedgehog houses around the site. As well as ducks and peacocks there are many rabbits and deer that run through the site and owls that can be seen and heard at night.
