Not quite wild camping

I was expecting 'almost wild camping' to be just that - peace and quiet. I was very disappointed that John rides around all day either in his 4x4 or a large quad bike so no peace and tranquillity. The pics could be updated as it is all very overgrown with limited access to the river. We were allocated pitch 1 closest to the railway bridge which was okay, but its a long trek to the toilet. Did not feel particularly eco friendly, no recycling or bins, we were told to take our rubbish out on departure but no instructions where exactly, so left it by an overflowing, unaccessible commercial bin. Behind the commercial bin was a disused lorry trailer, which appeared to be full of rubbish. Continuing on way out is a very small metal pen, home to a very large pig.
Is the best place I have ever been

This is the finest campsite I have ever experienced in the UK. Although our stay was brief—merely two nights—it exceeded my highest expectations. The farmer, a kind and generous soul, gifted us fresh eggs from his hens. The river, crystal clear and teeming with trout, enhanced our sense of seclusion, making it feel almost like wild camping. The facilities were immaculate, with spotless, well-maintained toilets, a hot shower, and a dedicated area for washing dishes. This campsite strikes the perfect balance between wilderness and safety. For animal lovers, it is an ideal retreat, offering the opportunity to camp near cows within a fenced area and to enjoy the presence of other farm animals as well..
Much needed stay in a great place

A great rustic location with cattle, birds and more. Great communication. John was a pleasure to meet and is working hard to create something that also has so much potential that I'm actually jealous. I wish him all the luck in the world. There is a lovely pub in High Bickington for Sunday lunch - a must, and its a lovely walk! Hope to come back one day soon and enjoy the camp fire, BBQ, river, cows and tranquillity. The trains that go past very occasionally must have been jealous as I waved them on to whatever less perfect destination they were on their way to. Keep going John! You have a gem of an opportunity in your hands. See you soon!

Marcus is a true gent and fabulous host, appeared by magic after snapping a tent pole and made sure we got sorted! The site has to be seen to be appreciated, stunning, wild location but with hot showers and compost toilets. The shingle riverside "beach" area is simply idyllic, perfect for sitting and contemplating life or the small lake that's ideal for a swim if the river is a little fast after all that rain. We ended up staying in one of the well built glamping pods next to the pig pen that my daughter loved! We will certainly be back and can wholeheartedly recommend this site to any demographic. Good luck with the farm planning Marcus and hopefully see you again soon!

Owners were really friendly and always on hand when we needed help. Showers were nice and warm with good amount of power. Not only did we make friends with the resident cows, but we managed to see a baby otter, which was living in the lake. If it's peace and quiet you're after, then this campsite is definitely a must.
Amazing, back to nature place by the river

Lovely peaceful spot by the river. Loads of space between pitches. The antithesis to the sort of campsites which line everyone up on top of each other. Owners were super-friendly and helpful. Can have campfires. Took our dog.

We felt it was less suitable for motorhomes as the hairpin turn is narrow.
Site's response
The entrance does have a sharp turn, and we are here to help anyone who has difficulties, as I helped you get in safely, by doing a 3 point turn. Please come with Caravans and manage fine. Sorry you didn't feel our service was outstanding, or that we offered value for money, it is wild camping in a beautiful location next to the river and there aren't facilities other than Wc and Showers. We are sad that you didn't find anything positive or nice about the location and your stay with us, we so hope you enjoyed some part of your stay with us. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to host you. Best regards Marcus and John

This was my first solo camping trip and it was perfect. The owners, John and Marcus, were extremely helpful and friendly. I had a very relaxing break camping right by the river Taw.

Lovely place by the river. Lots of wildlife, it's a working farm which was great to see. Clean toilets and shower, very helpful owner. I will definitely book this again for a tent or the pods. The kids loved it as well. You can light a fire and just chill. Thank you Wolf Meadows.

We had the best holiday here at Wolf Meadow. The site was very peaceful, very clean and the owner was very friendly and accommodating in anything we needed or wanted to know. We loved everything from watching the cows ( especially the mother calf), going for walks every evening and seeing the bulls, going on the rope swing and going in the river. On one side of the tent were the cows, river on the other. We would also have a daily show from the kingfishers who would dive into the water and then go land on a branch and keep doing flybys. They would also give a little tweet so you knew they were coming. They were beautiful. We could also hear the otters at night, just unfortunately never go to see them. My son would also love to see the Great Weston train come through behind the trees at slow speed. The sheep on the other side of the river were also highly amusing with their baaing. It's great if you want to get out of the towns or if you live and enjoy the countryside like us. We liked the sounds of the tractor coming to feed the cows and hearing them moo in excitement to see the farmer, the flowing of the river and the general peacefulness of it all. We haven't been so relaxed in a very long time. There are also lovely-looking glamping pods for people that want to be out in the outdoors without giving up too many luxuries. We will definitely be going back to this site and will absolutely be recommending it to all. Thank you Wolf Meadow for an amazing holiday for my family to enjoy. We will see you again.
A pretty campsite

A pretty campsite stretching along a bend of the river. In the centre there was a small herd of shaggy cows - a new calf arrived on our first evening. Staff were friendly, but the facilities are fairly basic. Over 25 pitches at least and only one shower with hot water and often a queue to wash up in the double sink. There's a trainline bordering one side of the campsite, but only sporadic trains, usually two carriages at most. Overall, a good experience.

So lovely camping next to a river. Saw Kingfishers and my kids had a great time as the river is perfect for exploring. Could hear the water at night, so very relaxing.

It's a really nice campsite and well spaced out. The staff (or owners?) were extremely friendly and welcoming.
