About the site

Llyn Gwynant is the nature lovers' campsite in the very heart of Snowdonia. Lying below Snowdon in the most beautiful valley in Wales, it's ideal for walking and adventure activities. There is easy access to Mount Snowdon by foot, car or bus, as well as access to many easier and very beautiful walks nearby. This campsite is for people who love the outdoors, it is not overdeveloped so that out of season, the land returns to green fields. In late August and busy bank holidays, the site is popular, with a family festival atmosphere, so come for peace and quiet at other times. For campers, choose from a range of non electric grass pitches or allocated electric grass tent pitches with access to EHU. There are also both hardstanding and reinforced grass pitches, for those with motorhomes, campervans and single axle caravans, some with electric hook ups and space for awnings. The site has free fire pits and sells firewood to offer a comfortable stay, it is also dog friendly, with a designated dog walking area for your four legged friends.

No sound systems are allowed, recycling is required and respect for the land and for others is essential.

*Noise and behaviour: This campsite is for the quiet enjoyment of nature so no radios, stereos or other sound systems are allowed at any time and only quiet talking after 11.00 pm. Acoustic instruments including guitars, fiddles, flutes can be played before then - but no drums! No generators are allowed on site. Be respectful to wardens and other campers. A group bond of £20 per person is charged to people in groups of 4 or more which is is refunded when you leave if all rules are kept including a clean pitch and no noise.

*Distance between tents: at least 6 m between tents of different groups, at least 3 m between tents of same group.

*Rubbish and recycling: Leave your pitch clean, separate paper, glass and cans and place them in the special bins provided in carpark, with rubbish in marked bins.

*BBQs are welcome if they protect the grass. We dislike so-called "disposable bbqs" and allow them only if raised off the grass on a brick or a firepit: take them with you when you leave

*Security: we do our best to maintain a safe site but cannot accept responsibility for the security of your vehicles or belongings. Please be sensible and ensure that all valuables, mountain bikes, canoes etc are properly secured at all times.

*Camp fires are allowed only if they are small, on one of our metal firebox stands and use wood bought from us - bags are sold outside reception around 6.00 pm. Do not light fires on the ground or collect wood from surrounding farm or woodland. Do not bring wood, coal or other combustible materials on site for fires.

*Your own kayaks, canoes, dinghies and sailboats are welcome if you are camping with us but you will be charged for launching boats if you are not, see our Rates page for details.

*No sound systems are allowed.

*No power boats or motorised craft are allowed on the lake or river.

*Fishing is not allowed on the river or lake.

*Tents need to be pitched behind the white posts so that the lake beach is clear for everyone to enjoy.

*No drones to be used.

*Dogs are a max of 2 per pitch and there is a zero tolerance for dogs off a lead.

Kayaks and canoes can be hired from April to September on all weekends, and every day during the main school holidays in July and August. This operates beside the river opening onto the lake. You can also bring kayaks, canoes and sailing boats to use on the lake and river, and there is no charge for this if you are camping with the site.

For keen swimmers, the lake and river are perfect places for a dip and are popular wild swimming locations, although please make sure children are supervised at all times.

This is one of the few campsites that allows campfires, on readily supplied metal pits, so toasting marshmallows is an essential activity. Guests can also use their own BBQs for an evening cook out so long as the grass is protected.

Walking the magnificent hills of Snowdonia is one of the main attractions at Llyn Gwynant. You can walk up Snowdon directly from the campsite, either take the Watkin path that starts to the south of the campsite or via the Miners or PYG tracks which starts to the north of the campsite.

Other shorter and easier walks, such as a gentle 1.5 hour ramble around the shores of beautiful Llyn Gwynant, can be done directly from the campsite. For climbers, there are also four crags within easy reach too.
