About Ferrygate Camping

An off-grid, at one with nature, camping site set in the beautiful Norfolk Broads National Park, right by the water! The site even has its own launch, leading to miles of waterways. Kayaks and canoes are available to hire from the site - great for exploring and discovering the wonder of the Broads network and its wildlife. Here you'll find several non-electric grass pitches that accommodate a vehicle, tent, awning or gazebo. Our facilities are rather special and include flushing loos and hot showers! Pitches are also suitable for small campervans and roof tents. Campers can choose to pitch wherever they wish across our 9 acres of grass meadow. In the mornings, the onsite Coffee Shack provides barista coffee and a selection of breakfast pastries. It also stocks cakes and savouries and a few camping treats and essentials. From here, you can hire firepits and purchase logs. After a day's exploring, light up your campfire and toast marshmallows as the sun sets and you wait for dark, starry skies. With low light pollution, stargazing here is breathtaking. Nearby you'll also find miles of golden beaches and multiple walking trails and cycle routes. It's a true gem for those looking to immerse in the great outdoors. Dogs are welcome.

Open from 1 May to 31 October

A note from the site themselves...

Hello! And thank you for considering a stay at Ferrygate Camping. The meadow has been owned by our family since 1937 and was originally part of a dairy farm - the brick wall of our open barn is the remains of the old cattleyard. Sometime during the 1960s the cows moved from Martham to another nearby farm and the meadow was then used to grow grass and provide silage for feeding the cows in winter. With the decline in dairy farming incomes, diversification became necessary and options included the idea of a campsite. So in the summer of 2018 we trialled a pop-up one! This proved very popular and we realised what a gem we had! Not only because of its quiet, rural setting but with its proximity to the water of the Broads. We spent much time and effort gaining planning permission and designing our off-grid facilities and opened in 2021. We have since welcomed hundreds of lovely camping folk, with or without their children, their dogs, their canoes, kayaks or paddleboards and we hope that you might also book and come and experience what it is to stay with us at Ferrygate Camping. You can be assured of a genuinely warm welcome, a peaceful stay and the guarantee of seeing lots of wildlife right from your tent! Our aim is to provide you with a wonderful camping stay and to share with you our very special little corner of Norfolk. We do hope you will come and visit soon...

The Norfolk Broads National Park is a water lover's paradise, with over 120 miles of navigable, lock-free waterway and 63 broads with channels and cuts, some of which is only accessible by Stand-Up Paddle Board, kayak or canoe. There is boat hire a plenty and an excellent choice is Martham Ferry Boats just a 2 minute walk from Ferrygate. We also have kayak and canoe hire from the campsite.

The beautiful coastal village of Winterton-on-Sea is only a ten-minute drive away and offers not only the majestical sandy beach and wondrous Winterton Dunes National Nature Reserve it also has a superb pub and tea rooms.

The options to keep busy or adventure are many! Within a 20 minute drive radius, popular with families, we have Bewilderwood Tree Adventures and Hirsty's Family Farm Park. For those looking to get close to nature, we have several wildlife reserves and Ross' Boat Trips provide really informative guided boat trips. The seals on Winterton and Horsey beaches are present all year round are quite a spectacle.

There is much history and historic buildings nearby including St Benets Abbey, Horsey windpump and the Museum of the Broads at Stalham.
