About Cheglinch Farm Glamping

With just three tents (and a maximum of 15 people) within a four acre field you are assured of plenty of space to roam freely, relax and get back to nature. Rent one tent or the whole site and stay by North Devon's best beaches while you get to know the friendly animals at the farm. The glamping site is in a unique field found on a working dairy farm. The field was originally a wetland area but it has been sensitively drained, whilst maintaining some of its original features which are great at attracting wildlife. A small stream crosses the field and little pockets of marshland remain which are perfect for attracting frogs, insects and birds. Children also love darting in and out of the reeds - handy for games of hide and seek too. Enjoy a stay in a beautiful Lotus Belle tent (it's the best bits of a bell tent and yurt in one). Each tent will comfortably sleep four with a double bed, a single bed and a day bed made up ready for your arrival. Staff can provide a travel cot too. You can hire an additional mattress and bed linen, or you can bring your own small inflatable ready bed for an additional small child. Children love the cow themed duvet covers - you are staying on a dairy farm after all! Fairy lights, tea lights and lanterns provide the perfect tranquil atmosphere inside. The best thing about these tents is their private facilities - your own loo, kitchen and shower close by the tent. This is camping in comfort! Campfires welcome using fire pits available on site.

Cheglinch Farm Glamping is open from 10/05 to 22/09 in 2024 and from 23/05 to 21/09 in 2025.

Facilities and amenities

There is a private toilet adjacent to each tent and private shower room with hot shower, sink and mirror a short walk away. There is also a fire pit and picnic table for each tent. Guests have use of an outdoor kitchen equipped with gas BBQ and utensils.

For kids there is a rustic play area, play barn with an indoor play area that offers a ball pit, sandpit and board games, plus plenty of open space to explore. Inside the barn you'll also find electric for charging phones. The site also has a shared fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine and undercover washing up area.

Less than a mile away is the local pub in West Down and a shop.

Bell Tent - Lotus Belle TentsJun 2024

We decided to have a last-minute getaway for the weekend as it was my birthday. The owner, Ella, welcomed us shortly after we arrived and told us about the facilities. The tent, showers, and composting toilet were all impeccably clean. The kitchen pod was well-fitted out and had everything you could want. When we arrived, the farm had some new-born calves and each tent had its own chickens who provided eggs for breakfast. We had birds nesting in the roof of the toilet pod and the dawn chorus was beautiful. It was perfect for us as a couple and would also suit a family of four (younger kids) or would make an amazing base for a small group to take the whole site. Cheglinch Farm Glamping is a great location for exploring the North Devon coast and is highly recommended.

May 2024

Our first impressions of Cheglinch were great. fantastic location, beautiful spot, clean bell tents and facilities and we liked it even more after our 3 night stay. Everything has been so well thought out; comfortable (proper beds and hot showers!) while still maintaining all the 'wild' fun you want when glamping (fire pits, outdoor kitchen, outdoor play area and loads of space for the kids to run around). Highly recommend!

Bell Tent - Lotus Belle TentsMay 2023

We had the most peaceful stay. The location is idyllic, especially if you have young children. They can run around safely (& wild) in a beautiful safe spot. Ella the host, was so lovely upon arrival and Barney (Ella's dog), is an added bonus. I would highly recommend this site.

Yes both are allowed when built in the provided spaces. Please ensure they stay raised off the grass.

Hen and stag parties or groups with 7+ adults are not accepted unless with prior approval.

You can collect your own fresh eggs from the chickens and meet the Cheglinch's family of guinea pigs. The calf sheds are nearby so have a peak through the window at feeding time. You may be lucky enough to see the milking cows walking back from the fields to be milked or the tractors nearby.

West Down village is within walking distance at less than a mile away. Here you can enjoy traditional pub food in the Crown Inn, fetch supplies from the community shop or visit the community field equipped with a lovely children's play area.

Next you can't beat a trip to the beach - Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton, Ilfracombe, Putsborough- the choice is yours. They are all within a five minute drive. Perhaps visit a different beach every day of your stay! However, if you prefer smaller coves Lee, Hele Bay and Heddon's Mouth are a few of your alternatives. Lee is a favourite for kayakers.

Within the seaside area you are spoilt for choice with numerous outdoor activities available. Surfing, fishing, cycling, horse riding, swimming, coasteering, coastal rafting, paddleboarding, kayaking, golf, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting- the list goes on and on.

Ilfracombe is just a five minute drive away. The Victorian Tunnels Beaches are definitely worth a visit. They are steeped in history and offer great rock pools and a tidal bathing pool. Ilfracombe Harbour hosts Damian Hirst's statue 'Verity', an aquarium, restaurants and great shops.

Try boat fishing trips, sea safari days out and cruises to Lundy Island - see if you can spot the Lundy puffins whilst you are there. One of Britain's most haunted houses, Chambercombe Manor, is also found in Ilfracombe.

If you love hiking then head for Exmoor National Park, approximately half an hour's drive away. There is unlimited walking potential over the moors and plenty of spectacular scenery.

In addition, The Valley Of The Rocks at Lynmouth should be on everyone's list. It is a place that has to be seen - amazing coastline, a stunning rock valley and wild goats! Tarr Steps is also a favourite, many a person has got down on one knee here.

Picturesque gardens can be found at Castle Hill Gardens just outside South Molton, Arlington Court and RHS Rosemoor.

If you are looking for theme parks to keep your children happy then look no further. Watermouth Castle at Ilfracombe, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo and The Big Sheep at Bideford are all within easy reach.

For something different you could try:

  • Ilfracombe Museum (10 minutes)
  • Woolacombe Sheepdog and Falconry (10 minutes)
