About Shell Island
Nestled along the stunning coastline of North Wales, the site offers a unique camping experience, ideal for adventurers, nature lovers and families alike. As one of the largest campsites in Europe, it is renowned for its breathtaking views, Tidal Causeway, expansive sandy beaches, and vibrant natural wildlife. The site offers spacious grass pitches across 300 acres, suitable for campers and tourers. You will be spoilt for choice when choosing where to set up camp, from open fields and sand dunes to secluded spots with sea views. With miles of unspoiled sandy shores, the island is a paradise for beach lovers. Site rules and policies
Rules
Do not camp within approximately 15 metres of another tent. Camping pitches in the sand dune areas are as where there are convenient pitches that afford some privacy.
Do not cut down trees. Shell Island is an area of special scientific interest. Anyone reported or caught damaging trees will be prosecuted and asked to leave.
Do not make open fires. All fires must be raised off the ground in a fire bin. Please ensure all fire/ash is dampened before disposal into skips. Camp fires are ok on the main beach as long as you clean up afterwards.
Barbecues are allowed, but they must be raised off the ground not to damage the grass. Please dispose of barbecues correctly and make sure they are fully extinguished.
Do not leave rubbish around your site and always take rubbish to the skips. Please do not leave bin bags etc outside as the birds will attack them. Report any untidy sites to Reception with relevant car numbers. Please make sure you tidy your site before leaving, and place all rubbish in to the skips.
Please keep all dogs on leads/tethered at all times and clean up after them. There are a few fields where dogs aren't allowed, please look out for the relevant signs for these areas. Shell Island is one of the few beaches that dogs are allowed on, so please clean up after them and use the doggy bins provided. On the main area of the beach dogs must be kept on leads, however if they fancy a run off their lead, there is an area available to them past the last bin on the main beach or in the dog exercise field by the football field. Free doggy bags are available at the Toll gate. Under the Control of Dogs Order 1992, all dogs must wear a collar and ID tag when out in public, which must detail their owner's name and address whilst on site. .
Due to a change in Government legislation, the XL Bully breed is now on the dangerous dog list, this mean as under our terms and conditions we do not accept any dogs which are on the dangerous dog list. This means, if your dog is an XL Bully you will not be able to bring them on holiday with you even if licensed. This rule applies to XL Bully assistance dogs.
Noise/Radios. No generators at all allowed on site. All noise/radios must be off by 10pm. Before this time all noise/radios must be kept at a reasonable level so it does not disturb any other campers.
No fireworks /Chinese lanterns/Drones. Shell Island does not allow fireworks or Chinese lanterns to be used onsite. We also do not allow Drone flying from the site. Anybody caught doing so will be asked to leave.
Road Rules. Normally road rules apply on Shell Island. Any drink drivers will be prosecuted by the police. Please adhere to all speed limits on site anybody caught not adhering to them will be asked to leave. No boot riders etc. No driving on the sand dunes or the beach.
Cyclists. We advise all cyclists to wear helmets whilst cycling on the Island.
We do not accept caravans, Tear drop trailers/mini caravans, Motorised scooters, Jet skis, quads, Go peds, Mini Motorbikes. Road legal bikes are allowed as transport (subject to conditions), (off road /trial bikes are not permitted).
Power Kites. Power kites are permitted but they must show valid insurance. Power kites may only be used 400yds/mtrs south of the main beach car park. Buggy kites by prior arrangement only.
Shell Island is a families and couples campsite only and do not accept any groups.
Things to do on site and in the Llanbedr area
You will not be short for things to do with activities from treasure hunts, exploring the sand dunes to beach games, there's plenty to keep the whole family entertained.
Dive into adventure with activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and crabbing and dolphin watching. Explore the scenic trails that wind through the picturesque landscapes of North Wales, offering panoramic views.
There is even have a boat that operates from site that runs daily fishing trips and pleasure cruises around the bay
