It was in a great location and very quiet. But, the owner made no effort to welcome or contact us. We rang her phone number as it said to do, but no answer. Was never checked on to so see if we were alright and to show us where anything was. Also, there was a shelter for rainy days, but this was in such poor condition, it was so leaky with water, it was hardly worth it.
Site's response
Hi Rob, I am so sorry you felt like this. I sent you a text explaining where everything was and to make yourself at home when you arrive. I also sent an email with a map of the site and an email explaining that due to a family emergency, I won't be around but to contact me if you needed anything and the neighbours were available to help if needed. Admittedly looking into it I can now see that final email failed to send, so I can only apologise you never got this explanation, however I did not get a phone call or reply from you, so I assumed everything was ok. I agree about the shelter it is in need of some repair, we bought the site only a few months ago and it is one of our first winter jobs to do so I can only apologise it wasn't fixed for your arrival. I hope this hasn't put you off staying with us again, where you will certainly get a warm welcome when I've not had to rush off for a family emergency. Best wishes, Cassy

Fantastic little site in an ideal location for access to the hills and Keswick. Local pub is excellent too.

A nice, fairly quiet campsite. We had a party of cyclists arrive on our second night who were a bit noisy. My grumbles are that I didn't realise that cars would be parked away from our pitch. It wasn't a massive walk, it just would have been more convenient to have it closer for storage. I've given 4 stars for cleanliness as I felt the toilets and showers could have been better, signs of mildew and lots of cobwebs. Good points were that we were warmly welcomed and a well stocked honesty shop. Fire pits were a lovely touch as was the covered area with picnic tables. Local pub is recommended but book early as it's very popular. I would stay at the site again, very handy for Keswick and Northern Lake District.

This is a lovely little campsite, perfect for a quiet stay and base for exploring the lakes. The facilities were good, the washing up area was really useful and the toilets were warm and clean. The water was hot and because it's a small campsite the toilets and showers were private. The host was lovely and approachable with a wealth of knowledge. The local pub was great (food was OK with over inflated tourist prices), nonetheless very handy to have close to the site. We shared some beautiful sunsets and sunrises here. We would definitely come again! Thank you

I spent two nights here as the location worked for a route I wanted to do. It was easy to find and the walk to the Sun Inn for a meal isnโt too far. The facilities were clean and when I realized I forgot my toothpaste a small shop on site had me covered. Itโs great that each pitch also has a fire pit. I absolutely loved my stay here and highly recommend it.

Recently stayed at Kestrel Lodge campsite. I was extremely happy with the really well maintained site and excellent facilities provided. There are showers, a wet room, a washing machine and pot wash area. There is also an honesty shop on site, where you can buy milk, logs, bacon, free range eggs and much more. It was easy to get to a lot of places and there was a pub within a mile, Cassie was really helpful, she goes above and beyond. I would stay again and will 100% recommend.

Stayed here to meet up with a friend and then walk up Skiddaw. Location is brilliant, and the site is perfectly sized. Not too big, lovely people running it, and nice pitches. I would highly recommend, and will be back.

I would recommend this campsite to anyone looking to have a quiet getaway in the Lake District. 15 minute drive to Keswick, stunning views and the Cumbria Way on the doorstep meant it was perfect for my solo hiking and mountain biking trip.
Highly recommend if you have transport

Great quiet campsite, friendly staff and great facilities. However, I recommend having a vehicle as it's a good half hour walk from the nearest bus stop, which is then another half hour to town in order to then get to any walking spots. It's possible but takes a lot of time out of your day to get around. Was definitely a good experience and nothing against the campsite itself other than location!

We loved our stay at Kestrel Lodge. Super easy-going, friendly and helpful host (Cassy). Location is out of the way of busier places. Only a 10 minute drive from lovely Keswick, which has lots of nice places to get breakfast, lunch or dinner. 10 minute drive to the start point of Helvellyn. You can also walk to the Sun Inn pub from the campsite. Rules mean no music so evenings are very relaxing, sitting by the campfire under the stars. This place seemed to attract the right crowd too, everyone was friendly and happy to be there. Thanks for a great time.

We absolutely loved the campsite and were looking forward to bagging a few Wainwrights from the doorstep! Unfortunately, due to terrible weather conditions, we didn't do the Skiddaw group but were recommended other walks and enjoyed these. The campsite, despite the rain, wasn't too muddy! Very spacious pitches and a wonderful location. Lots of stunning views, even from the washing-up station! The toilets and showers were clean. Delicious eggs from the hens, who were not afraid to say hello! Lovely, lovely place, we will be back!

Great location for bagging Wainwrights. Pub is 1.14 miles away, Keswick a 20-minute drive. Friendly staff, on-site shop with the basics, freezer for ice packs, 2 toilets and 1 shower. Very peaceful site, would recommend and will definitely visit again.

We had a great welcome from Kathy. Chose our own pitch on the site. Lovely setting with great facilities for such a small site. Tucked away from the crowds but perfect for great walks. Oh and a Great pub just down the track. Will definitely use this site again.

You would not have found this campsite just in passing, but this was the beauty of it. We really felt that we were away from civilisation and able to fully relax. The campsite owner was very welcoming and present so it was easy to ask questions as needed. The toilet facilities weren't huge but served all our purposes splendidly, the showers were beautifully warm. The local pub was a 1 mile walk down the track but not too far away to have to get a car. It is a great location for walkers as well with good access to walk up Skiddaw. We will certainly visit again.

A lovely site with very nice hosts who have recently taken on ownership. Not intended to be a criticism but helpful feedback - if an option to develop toilet and shower facilities arises, that would be very good. More about numbers than quality. Sleep was slightly disturbed by one less than considerate group, however, no question the site seeks to attract considerate campers. Would not prevent me using the site again.
So relaxing

First time at campsite. Lovely location, there was a fenced off field for the dogs to have a run about. Toilet and shower facilities where clean and also, there were 3 sink areas for cleaning dishes. There was a reception with few bits if you needed anything, like crisps or wood for firepits, and an honestly box for when it wasn't open. Campsite was tidy. I'd definitely go back as it is a nice little campsite, not overcrowded and to see the chickens strutting around ๐
