The Dorset Hideaway is just three miles from the main tourist route into West Dorset, with unrivalled and uninterrupted views across unspoilt countryside and farmland. The highest hills in inland Dorset are a stunning panoramic backdrop.
About The Dorset Hideaway
Small but perfectly formed, The Dorset Hideaway is a family-run and family friendly camping, touring and glamping site in West Dorset. Located just three miles from Charmouth and five miles from West Bay (aka Broadchurch!), it's a non-commercial site and for all who enjoy back to nature, peace, relaxation and the nicer things in life. Pilsdon Pen provides an amazing backdrop. There are 71 spacious and mostly level pitches for caravans, motorhomes and tents. All pitches have electrical hook up and all have an area of grass. Pitches are divided from each other by either hedging or fencing, with the exception of the all-grass tent pitches in the field. The site is suitable for tents, campervans, trailer tents, caravans, small RVs and 5th wheelers, as well as motorhomes up to 9m - and everything else in between. Hire a fire pit and buy some logs and marshmallows from the shop, then sit back and enjoy the tranquility as the sun sets, perhaps reading a book borrowed from the information room. The site is a dark skies site and all lighting is energy conscious LED, emitting a dull light so as not to spoil the evening skies. Do feel free to take a torch! There are also seasonal pitches on site for those who want to stay long term, with a season running from late March until late October. The team look forward to welcoming you on site very soon.
The site opens at Easter each year and closes after Bonfire night, weather permitting, with a brief opening for the Christmas fortnight too.

Things to do on site and in the Bridport area
Beauty and therapy treatments at the on site Hideaway Spa are very popular, as are the art and craft lessons in the on site art studio. You can also hire the hot tub for an hour (May - September, pre-booked).
There is a small unsupervised children's play area for under 10s and fenced ball area for the older ones. There is also a selection of indoor and outdoor games available to hire.
The site has a family non commercial fishing pond on site where you can try your hand at fishing, it's free to all guests and frozen bait is available if you haven't got your own.
Kids will love the tractor and trailer ride around the farm, weather permitting (£2 adults and £1 per child). They're also welcome to visit the animals on the farm and collect fresh eggs from the hens. You can also see how many different types of birds you can spot visiting the feeders. A Sparrow Hawk also likes to visit and he is very beautiful, but fast!
TV's Broadchurch is a made up town name from a hybrid of the local village Whitchurch and the next village Broadoak! Mr Fellowes lives locally and must have seen these signs many times and thought the name up from there!
Whitchurch Canonicorum is famous as it's the only church outside of Westminster Abbey to have it's own saint's relics buried in it's altar. The views from the spire are amazing and a small donation will open the door for you.
The hill you can see from the site is Pilsdon Pen and ancient Iron Age and subsequently Roman hilltop fort with views spanning the Jurassic coast. The curve of Chesil beach can clearly be seen from the top, as can the whole of the Somerset levels.
Charmouth has an excellent visitor centre that is packed with information on fossils and there are guided fossil walks or, if you are really unlucky, a shop where you can cheat and buy one! You can book onto an hour fossil hunting session with Chris - minimum 6 people (£5 each) - or perhaps go metal detecting in the fields with Mike (£3 per child). Everyone finds something!
