Glorious valley views at the foot of White Combe mountain, next door to a heavy horse riding centre

About Baystone Bank Farm Campsite

Surrounded by glorious walking country, breathtaking views and unspoilt landscapes, this is the ideal destination for spending days in the outdoors. Next door to the world's only BHS-approved Heavy Horse Riding Centre, you can even try your hand at horse riding! Grass only pitches are located alongside a beautiful shallow running stream which is ideal for children to play in. These pitches are suitable for tents, trailer tents and small campervans, set on level ground with your own fire pit area for campfires (logs sold onsite). These are located only a two minute walk away from the facilities. Some of these pitches are also car-free, but vehicles can be left in the car park with wheelbarrows provided to transport your things! For campers, caravans and motorhomes, there are hardstanding electric pitches which are slightly elevated overlooking the Whicham Valley and surrounding mountains. Each pitch is level and has its own fire pit area for campfires and allows units up to 6m in length. Pitches are also available without electric in the Bramless and Little Mead fields, which offer minimal shelter but glorious unspoilt views. The roundhouse is custom built, and well-insulated to keep you snug in winter and cooler in summer. Sleeping up to four, the roundhouse offers a double bed, electric, heating, a log burner, and a fully equipped kitchen. Three Wigwam pods are also available onsite, with two pods sleeping four and one sleeping six. All the pods have an ensuite shower room and decking area with a hot tub! To the south is the Baystone Bank, where the farm name comes from. The ancient woodland on the bank and alongside the stream provides shelter for a wealth of birds and other wildlife. If you like the idea of a small and peaceful campsite based on a working farm with sheep and horses meandering around, and buzzards soaring overhead, look no further. Four-legged friends can also join you for your stay, with up to two allowed per pitch. BBQs are also permitted as long as they are raised from the ground!

Baystone Bank Farm Campsite is open all year round.

A note from the site themselves...

My name is Annie and I will be your host here at Baystone Bank Farm Campsite. I started this business over 20 years ago, originally doing riding tours around the Isle of Skye, before moving myself, the rest of the gang, and the business south to begin the next leg of the journey.

We first got here in 2016 and it has very much become a family business. My eldest son Jamie takes care of the campsite and my youngest Jack takes care of the farm side looking after our cows and sheep, leaving me to tend to what I love most, our majestic heavy horses. I do hope you love our site, and we look forward to you joining us and meeting us at our wonderful farm!

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesOct 2024

We booked this site because we were planning on exploring the South Western Lakes. It was perfect. Great location for what we wanted. The facilities, though basic, were clean and well maintained. It had electric hook up, a chemical toilet disposal tank, fresh water and a shop/cafe to get the basics. We were greeted by Jamie, very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.

A true gem in the Lake District

Medium Tent - Streamside Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

An absolutely amazing stay at Baystone Bank. We spent 4 nights at the site in a tent by the stream and have no complaints at all. The small shop is well stocked and the food was lovely, the location of the site is perfect and relatively close to all main sites you want to visit and there are some amazing walks nearby. We certainly will return and will recommend to all who think about coming to the Lake District.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesSep 2024

We have been several times and love the campsite. It is a traditional family campsite in a beautiful setting and very peaceful. The heavy horses are a great bonus too.
