Wardley Hill Campsite sits in the Waveney Valley between Beccles and Bungay, near the Norfolk Broads and Suffolk Coast. It's a relaxed campsite promoting a back to basics camping experience. Fires in old washing machine drums are a must as is laying back in the sunshine, or under the stars, listening to the owls and buzzards. If tents aren't your thing try the Tinkers Hut, bell tent,or the unique tree tents!

What a fantastic campsite! If you enjoy seclusion and a slightly eco style of life, then this is a must visit site. Owls hooting in the evening, light of the camp fire and foxes barking at night. The compost loos were clean and nothing to be afraid of and the other 'standard' campsite facility excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay while completing the coastal path and will definitely come back!

A lovely small site with secluded pitches in between wildflower meadows. Back to basics but had everything you'd need 😁 Great for young kids with places to explore.

Thank you Edward for taking the time to write a review. So glad you enjoyed your stay.

Wild camping, not a bleak field with rows of cars next to tents

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesJul 2024

Great place. Exactly what we were after, which was a campsite with a "close to nature" feel. I didn't want to sit in a bare field with rows of cars with tents beside them. Wardley Hill is on a gentle slope with waist-high wildflowers/long grass etc and a labyrinth of personal campsites among the long grasses. There are narrow meandering paths mowed through the long grasses. Off the pathway are mown circles with space for a large tent and BBQ. Each camper gets their own private circle space. The kids loved running around the pathways exploring the available sites. There are big, 2 wheeled wheelbarrows to transport bags from the parking area to the tent site. It's about a 3 min barrow push. The place was quiet and very relaxed. The amenities were clean. We will be back.

Site's response

Thank you Jordan for this comprehensive review! It was a pleasure having you stay. For those interested in wheel barrow travel times, these are variable depending on which pitch you choose.

Lovely campsite with very private secluded areas to pitch. The only negative is the smell from the composting toilets.

Site's response

Thank you for taking time to review the campsite via Campsites.co.uk. So glad you appreciated the secluded pitches and for giving us mostly 5 stars. Sorry the toilets were not for you and that you wouldn't recommend us to others. During your stay, I did become aware of an issue with one of the urine separators, which has now been rectified. If potential guests are interested in how our toilets work, please do ask.

Great pitch, so peaceful

My husband and I stayed here for two nights and had the best time. It's in the perfect spot to explore from, or stay in the comfort of the campsite and enjoy the countryside. We particularly liked the set up - although there were other people camping on the meadow, the way that the meadow is cut, the grassy areas were perfect as you felt a sense of privacy from the other campers with the long grass around you. The facilities are great and we loved the washing machine drums for a fire pit and spare bag of logs for an additional cost in case you ran out. It was our first time camping and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will 100% come back next year!

Site's response

Thank you so much! It was a pleasure having you stay.

Superb layout that allows small tents and large family tents space and interesting surroundings. Quiet, well maintained and that gets just right the balance between "nearly wild" and facilities (showers, toilets, pot cleaning areas. Well thought through site catering for campervans, small and large tents. Gives a feeling of remoteness but with facilities (shops, pubs, petrol) all within easy reach.

We had a lovely stay at Warley Hill Campsite. The owner Joe who greeted us was very welcoming and friendly, he was around often made the experience very personal, the little Easter eggs were a lovely touch! As for the campsite itself we loved the natural feel between the pitches, the little forest area was lovely as well, the toilets and washing up area were clean to use. We also made use of the library being able to borrow games and swap a book. 2 of the local towns were only a short drive away, with some nice shops as well as walks! Thank you Wardley Hill Campsite, we will definitely be back!

Site's response

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay on our first weekend open of the year.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesOct 2023

This is one of the best campsites I have stayed on. It feels very close to nature with the long grasses surrounding each pitch and the compostable toilets. Wonderful hot showers. A lovely pocket of (ancient?) woodland at the back. I met a fox when filling water bottles in the morning. Loud hooting owls at night. Great idea of using old washing machine drums for fires. Very helpful owner. The whole experience left me with a calm, positive feeling.

Site's response

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to write this review, Rupert, and we are so glad you appreciate our campsite. Hope to see you again some time.

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass Tent PitchesJul 2023

We found the no car approach revelatory… transporting gear by barrow was easy and the benefits of the campsite retaining its wildness, quietness and safety vastly outstripped the very minor inconvenience of not being able to park next to your tent. All the pitches appeared to be secluded and were surrounded by tall grasses (with their inhabitants audible to those with acute hearing). The toilets and showers took a bit of adjustment at first but worked terrifically and they set the standard for responsible eco-friendly camping. We also formed the impression that any problem would have been dealt with at the drop of a hat. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return!

Site's response

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. Compared to traditional camping/touring parks, we are worlds apart and that is most certainly our intention. Campers come with all sorts of needs and expectations and we are lucky in the UK that there is a wide range of campsites to visit. Some with swimming pools and awning charges, some with Llamas to pet and others with just campfires and stars. Thank you for giving us a go and we are so pleased you wish to return.

Superb tidy campsite, with plenty of space between pitches and were made to feel very welcome. Circular walk to local pub before back for BBQ and fire pit. Great if you are looking to stop, breathe and disconnect for a while.

Our sphynx cat approves. First impressions we were taken away with the beauty. A maze of high standing grass and wildflowers surrounded the area with open patches of walkways. Dotted around were fire pits. With the option to by the wood on site. Along with handmade wooden chairs and stools. We were greeted by the owner, Joe. He was friendly and welcomed us to the camp. He gave us recommendations to local pubs and things to do near by. On site there was a handmade library filled with local broachers and games to guide tourists. The toilets were all composable, which is great for the environment. Amazing to see. We travel with our sphynx cat, Apollo and sometimes this can be a challenge with dogs near by. However, this camp had zones for taking your dog off the lead. It also attracted down to earth friendly campers. Overall, Wardley Hill was a breath of fresh air from regular campsites.

Site's response

Thank you so much for this in depth review, we really appreciate it. Glad the three of you had a good time and enjoyed our campsite. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Lovely quiet site well placed to explore Norfolk/Suffolk. In half an hour you can be in the centre of Norwich or on the coast! (Both of which we can heartily recommend). Composting toilets were surprisingly pleasant! Owner Joe was really friendly (but not overbearing!), even leaving us crème eggs on Easter morning 😊 Really handy being able to buy logs on site as we didn't bring enough for our little bell tent log burner. The giant wheelbarrows meant it really wasn't inconvenient not having the car by the tent. It also meant we could let our baby crawl around on the grass without having to worry about cars. Really lovely weekend away, thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this great review. It was a pleasure having you stay. Best wishes, Joe.

We stayed for 3 nights in April. It’s a beautiful campsite, very quiet and peaceful. We will definitely be coming back, our kids felt safe and enjoyed it being so small. Thank you for a wonderful stay! There were lots of little details and care that made it very enjoyable. We went to Carlton Marshes with our children twice! And ventured to Great Yarmouth for the Sea Life Centre.

Beautiful, remote place. Lots of space and friendly faces. We forgot our sleeping bags... Where were our heads?! :D But this wasn't a problem at all as the host sorted us quickly with two bags for the night and some extra blankets. Was one of the best nights I ever had in a tent!

Site's response

So glad you both had a good night. Thank you for coming to stay for the night.
