About the site


Open all year round and located on the NC500, Ferry View provides a pit stop for those taking the iconic route, exploring the far north or heading over to explore the Orkney Islands. Halfway between Wick and Thurso, Ferry View offers the perfect base to discover everything Caithness has to offer. Motorhome and campervan pitches are all fenced with hardstanding and a grass area with electric on all pitches. There is also a separate tent only grass area with electric hook up and grass parking. There is an onsite licensed cafe and takeaway, offering a selection of meals for breakfast lunch and dinner, along with hot and cold drinks and snacks, including bottles of Scottish beers, wines and ciders. The site is also home to a quirky bus, a place to sit and relax, play board games, read a selection of books, have a coffee and take a look at the artwork for sale, handcrafted onsite in the Artist's Workshop. For those feeling a bit more active, the site has a games area with Giant Jenga, Swingball and other games to play. The owners are previous tour guides, meaning they have a wealth of local knowledge between them and are more than happy to share their knowledge and provide you with information if you need it. Fully centrally heated facilities building contains three full bathrooms with a shower, toilet and sink in each, along with a dishwashing, laundry and rubbish / recycling area. Disposal points for grey water and toilet waste are available, as well as fresh water refill. The site also has a midge-eater machine to keep the midges at bay!

There are pathways through the trees that surround the site for walking, as well as a communal play area for games including giant Jenga, giant draughts, swing-ball and tic-tac-toe. There is also a communal fire pit for guests to enjoy.

Mr Eddy's Pit Stop is onsite, providing a selection of meals and snacks for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a selection of hot and cold soft drinks, Scottish beers, wines, ciders and spirits. You can choose to take a seat on the converted bus and enjoy the view or takeaway and enjoy back at your camp! On board there are board games for guests to enjoy (including Highlands and Islands Monopoly!).

Opened in June 2019, Ferry View strives to provide the best service it can to all who come and stay. Ferry View is a family run by Royston and Vikki and any other family members who pitch in! If you are looking for a campsite that offers something a little bit different (some same we are quirky!), then Ferry View is the place for you.

With stunning views of the surrounding area and the night skies, as well as food and drink available on site, come and visit us for a chance to relax and take in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.

On site there is a small woodland surrounding the site (but watch out for the fairies!) as well as a communal fire pit and recreation area.

Also onsite is Mr. Eddy's, the licensed café and takeaway, where you can enjoy a variety of food and drinks. There's outdoor seating available, along with indoor seating on the bus, plus a selection of board games and books for your enjoyment.

Less than a mile away is the Gills Bay Ferry to Orkney, whilst the iconic John O'Groats (10 minutes) with the famous sign and its own passenger ferry to Orkney (seasonal), as well as places to eat and drink.

The towns of Wick (25 minutes) and Thurso (25 minutes) are both within easy reach providing a multitude of things to do and see including beaches, harbours, museums and, of course, distilleries.

Dunnet Bay (15 minutes) with its beautiful beach. Dunnet itself boasts a small crofting museum, a hotel with a restaurant and bar and a gin distillery!
