Why you'll love it at Whitney Bridge

About the site

Steeped in history, Whitney Bridge in Herefordshire is named after a wooden crossing which adds plenty of extra atmosphere to the site. Dating back to the 1700s, it's a rare find today. Enjoy the lovely riverside setting with a paddle or swim, or stroll by the water's edge with your eyes peeled for otters, kingfishers and other local favourites! There are grass pitches for around 15 - 20 tents and small campervans, so the site will never feel big or overwhelming. Fancy the glow of a fire of an evening? Campfires are welcome here and perfect for sizzling up a breakfast sausage. Or, the team can arrange for a tasty breakfast roll and cup of tea to be popped over to your tent.

What better to try in this charming riverside spot than canoeing and fishing! Hire a canoe and set off on the Wye, or settle down on the bank to fish the local salmon.

The perfect end to a day out in the fresh air is a pint in the pub serving food in Whitney-on-Wye, just 3 minutes away. Plus the site has a licence, so you can enjoy a glass of wine of an evening or a beer around the campfire.

If you're coming for the bookish fun of the Hay Festival - it's only four miles from site, and you can row your way back to the campsite in half a day. Hay-on-Wye bookshops and pretty centre are worth a stroll at any time of year, too.

One not to miss on your travels will be Hereford where you can browse Hereford Cathedral and the Mappa Mundi. Hereford Cider Museum is the perfect way to understand the local flavours and a walk on the Offa's Dyke Path is ideal for working off any food or drink you may have indulged in!
