A prominent site with a varied history, Cleethorpes Pier is a Victorian pier located in Cleethorpes in northeast Lincolnshire. Since its construction was completed in 1873, the pier has been used for a variety of entertainment purposes including concert halls, cafes, shops, bars and even a nightclub. There are an abundance of activities and attractions around Cleethorpes Pier that cater to adults and children, six of which are highlighted below so you can be guaranteed of a fun-filled family outing.

1. Pleasure Island Family Theme Park

Action-packed entertainment for the youngest kids right up to grandparents, Pleasure Island Family Theme Park is an adrenaline-filled day out you won’t want to miss. The range of rides available will keep everyone happy, whether they’re avid thrill seekers or keen for kiddie-friendly fun. There’s also a selection of shows on offer, ranging from acrobats to animals, so you won’t be short of fantastic things to see and do at this theme park.

2. Humber Forts

Anyone with an interest in WWI and WWII should check out the Humber Forts. These two forts were completed in 1919 to serve as a defence for the Humber and the port of Hull against invading enemy ships and submarines. Though they were constructed too late for WWI, they were used in WWII. The smaller of the two forts is Hail Sand Fort, while the larger one is Bull Sand Fort. Both are well-worth seeing for a glimpse into the past.

3. Coast Light Railway

Sit back, relax and enjoy unforgettable sightseeing courtesy of the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway. There’s nothing quite like a ride in a steam locomotive in order to take in views of the coast at your leisure. Pop into the Signal Box Inn at Lakeside Station for a refreshing drink in what may possibly be the smallest pub in the world. If you have a sweet tooth, perhaps the Brief Encounters tea room is your cup of tea, where you can enjoy a warm beverage and a selection of tasty cakes.

4. Ross Castle

Though it resembles the remains of an old castle, Ross Castle isn’t actually a castle. Instead, it is a folly constructed as a visitor attraction in 1863 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincoln Railway Company as Cleethorpes was developing into a holiday resort. Even though it isn’t a real castle, Ross Castle is still a prime attraction offering an uninterrupted view of the beautiful beach and sea beyond.

5. Lollipop Road Train

A train with a difference, the award-winning Lollipop Road Train is a sweet ride that swaps tracks for tyres. The train will delight children and adults alike as it travels from the North Promenade along the seafront. As an extra treat, children are presented with a free lolly!

6. Cleethorpes Beach

Miles of sand and safe swimming make Cleethorpes Beach an ideal attraction for families, couples and individuals. This Blue Flag winner has an abundance of facilities including a first aid centre, lost child centre, shops, cafes, toilets and deck chairs for hire. In addition to swimming, a number of other water sports can be enjoyed such as sailing, windsurfing and jet skiing. Whether you get stuck into building sand castles, enjoying the waves or simply soaking up the sun, this lovely beach is sure to please.

Other attractions and activities to enjoy

If you fancy a game of golf, swing by the Cleethorpes Golf Club. Youngsters can test their golfing skills with Odd Balls Crazy Golf. Karting World is a short drive away if you’re up for a spin around the track. For quieter attractions, you can also visit the range of pretty gardens and parks in Cleethorpes. There are often monthly events that take place such as fireworks or picnics depending on the time of year. With a selection of camping and caravan sites nearby, you’ll have a wide choice of entertainment within easy reach.
