Bovey Castle

Located in Dartmoor National Park, Bovey Castle golf course is a challenging but picturesque course situated in the valley below the lavish castle. This course is unique because of the idyllic landscape. A river runs in and out of the fairways creating a beautiful and serene environment for you to enjoy your game. A round is £70 per person for non-members (£49 from November to March) and there is great food available in the castle’s bistro. This really is a 5-star experience, so a specific dress code is required. Being in a national park, there are a number of camping facilities available where you are sure to find suitable accommodation.

Wrangaton

Wrangaton golf course is located on the southern slopes of Dartmoor between Ivybridge and South Brent. The course is distinct because of its two separate 9’s to play. The first is played on moorland surrounded by sheep while the second is played on wonderfully manicured fairways. You almost get two courses in one which makes for a varied and interesting game. Both halves are very picturesque with stunning views of Devon’s countryside and a gorgeous coastal backdrop where you can see the sea less than 10 miles away. A round is £25 Monday to Friday and £30 at weekends. The clubhouse if very relaxed and has a conservatory restaurant serving delicious food and drink.

Saunton

Saunton near Braunton in North Devon is an unspoilt and idyllic course split into East and West courses. It has played host to a number of championships tournaments. The East course partly runs through an area of sand dunes that have been recognised by UNESCO as having significant international importance due to the 500 or so species of rare flora residing there. Many of the holes tunnel through dunes creating a sense of being isolated from the other holes, allowing you to really immerse yourself in the game. The West course is shorter than the East and makes for a tougher game with its blind spots and general lack of room to manoeuvre. It is perfect if you’re looking for a challenge! A round costs £79 dropping to £48 in the winter months. For juniors, the cost is around £40 or £18 in winter. Saunton is a very family friendly course to visit. Only 3 miles from stunning sandy coastline, it is ideally situated for parents travelling with children, with plenty of parking, shopping and facilities within easy reach. The family will also enjoy a day visiting the Exmoor National Park to explore the delightful countryside.

Thurlestone

Thurlestone offers a truly unique golfing experience. Set on top of what is considered to be one of the most scenic coastlines and cliffs in Britain, this short course provides an exhilarating game amongst rocky terrain and generous fairways that can be demanding in places, but mostly provide a relaxing game. This course is ideal if you’re looking for an un-complicated, laid-back round. Fantastic meals are served in the clubhouse along with a bar to relax in afterwards. A round is about £40.

For even more incredible golf, visit the courses in Torquay, Dartmouth, Ashbury and East Devon which rival some of the best in the world. With amazing golf experiences as well as numerous camping options on offer, Devon is an ideal holiday destination that shouldn’t be missed!
