Fantastic days out for all the family

Sandcastle Waterpark is an indoor waterpark in Blackpool that offers waves of fun for children and adults. Soak up the excitement with the likes of water slides, water chutes and a lazy river which are just some of the attractions to look forward to.

If you want to stay dry but still want active excitement, the Kaos Indoor High Wire Adventure Centre in Lytham lets families get active in an exciting rope course. Participants wear harnesses and navigate obstacles that are suspended above the ground. There are also climbing trees and a toddler soft play area so all members of the family can have a great time.

Have fun with history

If you’re eager to see historic buildings you’re in luck in Lancashire. Lancaster Castle is a stunning Grade I Listed Building with a keep that dates from the 12th century, a 14th century Witches’ Tower and a 15th century gatehouse. The castle has a long history of use as a court and prison and is still used for these purposes today. Guided tours enable visitors to explore a large part of the castle, while a number of exhibits provide insight into the castle’s history.

Rufford Old Hall is another historical building that provides an enticing indoor visit during a rainy day. Focusing on a more specific aspect of Lancashire history, the Queen Street Mill Textile Museum is located in the village of Harle Syke and is the sole remaining 19th century weaving mill powered by steam. Visitors can see demonstrations of the fully working and original mill machinery in situ as well as peruse a range of other items associated with the textile industry.

Something a little bit different

If you’re not afraid of the dark that will all change with a visit to the Pasaje del Terror at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. This interactive horror attraction will have you screaming but there’s no telling whether it will be in delight or fear. Definitely an attraction for older children and adults only, the Pasaje del Terror is a self-led navigation through terrifying sets featuring renowned horror characters that will leave you reluctant to switch the lights off at night when you go to sleep…that is, if you make it out alive.

The Ribble Steam Railway on the other hand is a treat that can be enjoyed by all ages. Adults and kids will be eager to make tracks for this railway in Preston as it provides the chance to ride fantastic steam trains and get hands-on with the exhibits in the railway’s museum which include steam and diesel locomotives as well as wagons and carriages.
