1. Shropshire Hills

If you want to be wowed by nature you’ll certainly be left in awe with a visit to the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that can be enjoyed on foot or by bike and is guaranteed to take your breath away with its incredible and varied landscapes.

2. Shrewsbury

The lovely market town of Shrewsbury has plenty to offer visitors. View magnificent architecture, such as Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle, stroll in the stunning Quarry Park, take to the water via a cruise or hiring your own boat and perhaps bring home a souvenir from one of the variety of independent shops located along charming cobbled streets.

3. Ironbridge Gorge Museums

The ten fantastic Ironbridge Gorge Museums located in the Ironbridge World Heritage Site provide excellent insight into the Industrial Revolution. Each museum is well worth visiting as they provide different focuses, such as the Tar Tunnel which leads you on an underground adventure and the Blists Hill Victorian Town which enables you to experience days gone by with a marvellous recreated Victorian town.

4. Stokesay Castle

One of the first fortified manor houses to be constructed in England, Stokesay Castle is very well preserved and provides a great day out for adults and children. Highlights include the impressive great hall which has remained unchanged since 1291 and taking a walk around the pretty moat. The history of the castle is also provided through a complimentary audio tour.

5. Land of Lost Content Museum

If you love 20th century memorabilia then there’s a museum in Shropshire that should definitely go on your itinerary. Containing a variety of objects related to diverse categories, from fashion and toys to music and cooking, the Land of Lost Content Museum is a great place to get lost in and discover the delights of years gone by.

6. The Wrekin

If you’re after great views and don’t mind a bit of a steep climb to get to them, the Wrekin is a renowned hill in Shropshire that offers wonderful panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape. According to local legend, the Wrekin was created by a giant. One thing that is certainly true is that the hill is a popular spot for walkers and the surrounding sights are well worth the effort to get to the top.

7. Hawkstone Park and Follies

Do not miss the fabulously eccentric and wonderful Hawkestone Park and Follies. This historic landscape park is full of crazy pathways, ravines, caves, arches, bridges, cliffs and follies.  Built up over the years by the Hill family, starting in the 1700s, this magical mix of natural landscape and strange manmade structures is a genuinely surprising treat.

8. Royal Air Force Museum

There’s so much to see and do at the Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford that time will simply fly by. The museum houses more than 70 aircraft as well as the National Cold War Exhibition, an art gallery, a model room and a variety of vehicles on display so kids and adults alike will be eager to swoop from one intriguing attraction to the next.

9. Park Hall Countryside Experience

Park Hall is particularly well suited to families with younger children and offers an exciting array of daily activities such as tractor rides, pig racing, pony grooming and handling small animals. There are both indoor and outdoor play areas as well as three museums which offer a Welsh Guards collection, insight into Victorian schooling and the chance to view a recreated Iron Age roundhouse, ensuring there is plenty to intrigue adults and children during their visit to Park Hall.

10. Ludlow Castle

An exciting day of exploring is on offer at the magnificent ruins of Ludlow Castle. Construction of the medieval castle began as early as 1086 and visitors can enjoy excellent views from the top of the building, with perhaps a tasty treat in the tea room as a reward for some vigorous explorations.
