Yes, Lancashire has Blackpool, but it also has a whole lot more. From stunning landscapes to impressive historical buildings, we’ve listed our favourite Lancashire attractions below – enjoy!

1 Blackpool

One of the UK’s most famous and popular seaside resorts, Blackpool is a British holiday institution. The list of classic family attractions to enjoy here is endless: the sandy beaches, the theme parks, the shows, the pier and, of course, the iconic Blackpool Tower. It’s fun, it’s bright, it’s loud and it’s definitely a must see on your visit to Lancashire.

2 Forest Of Bowland

Take a step away from the crazy pace of Blackpool and relax into nature in the Forest of Bowland. A stunning wild landscape of fells, valleys and moorland, this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is popular for walking, cycling and horse riding. Walkers might enjoy the Ribble Valley Sculpture Trail, this route includes over 20 works of art and passes near Clitheroe.

3 Arnside and Silverdale

Arnside and Silverdale is another Area of Outstanding National Beauty in Lancashire with a varied landscape of woodland, limestone grassland, meadows and coastal bays. The coastal views here are stunning and the ancient woodland offers a peaceful environment for outdoor pursuits.

4 Lancaster Castle

Lancaster Castle is a fascinating building overlooking the town of Lancaster. The building dates back to the twelfth century and has had a rich history with many links to royalty. Part of the building is used today as a crown court, but much is still viewable for the public and is open 7 days a week. Adult tickets cost £8, concessions cost £6.50, and all under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

5 Leighton Moss

Leighton Moss is a fantastic RSPB nature reserve with trails to walk and cycle along and hides for you to bird watch from (knowledgeable staff can help any newcomers). Located within the Arnside and Silverdale AONB, this reserve contains a huge area of reed beds and provides habitats for lots of different wildlife, including red deer, otters and hundreds of species of birds.

6 Morecambe

The pleasant seaside resort of Morcombe is smaller than its rival Blackpool, but just as well-loved. And with good reason, as the stunning Morcambe Bay coastline has plenty to offer. The 1897 Victorian Pavilion in the town is known as the Winter Gardens and often hosts special events. You can also see the giant statue of comic writer and actor Eric Morecambe, who grew up here.

7 Wild Boar Park

Families with small children will have no trouble keeping the little ones entertained at the Wild Boar Park near Preston. They can see and feed the animals, which include goats, llamas, lambs, deer and, of course, the wild boar. There are rides and play areas too. But this isn’t just a petting zoo, there is also woodland to explore, a river to walk along and lots of wildlife to see.

8 West Pennine Moors

The West Pennine Moors is a huge area of moorland and reservoirs perfect for those who enjoy adventure sports and outdoor pursuits. Walking cycling and horse riding are popular here. For those who want to step it up a notch, there are rock sports, MTB trails and adventure attractions like Go Ape. Or, for a slightly more serene option, you can try sailing or fishing on one of the reservoirs.

9 Astley Hall

Astley Hall is an absolutely stunning Jacobean house which contains a museum and art gallery. The house has an interesting history and is fun to explore. It is set within extensive parkland, which includes a lake and a walled garden, and the grounds are perfect for a picnic and a stroll. Even better, entry to the house and park is free.

10 Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary

Turbary Woods is a fantastic rescue centre with over 90 birds of prey to see. There are eagles, owls, hawks and falcons, plus many more. There are talks and information so you can learn more about these fascinating animals, plus get a good view of them! Tickets are also very reasonable, at £5 for adults, £3 for children.
Lancashire is a popular holiday destination with loads of offer a wide range of visitors, from fun seaside resorts to beautiful wild landscapes. With great family days out and plenty of attractions to inform and entertain you, you really are spoilt for choice in Lancashire!
