6 brilliant things to do in Lincolnshire for kids

Lincolnshire is a fantastic family holiday destination with so much on offer to keep everyone entertained. From outdoor treats and days on the beach to animal adventures and horrible history, we pick our favourite things to do in Lincolnshire for kids.

1 Rushmoor Country Park

Rushmoor Park is a great place to spend a day outdoors in the countryside. This lovely little animal haven in Louth is home to a large variety of small animals and birds, including owls. From rabbits and guinea pigs to goats and ponies, the park is particularly suited to younger kids, who will love meeting the cute critters that live here. In spring, there is the opportunity to bottle-feed lambs. Tickets are £5.99 per person, but children under 2 are free. Plus, if you arrive before 11am and quote “early bird” you will get in for £5 – bargain!

2 Seal Sanctuaries

Thanks to the colonies of seals to be found on this coast, Lincolnshire has not one, but two brilliant seal sanctuaries. Natureland, in Skegness, rescues and rehabilitates abandoned seal pups found on the Lincolnshire beaches. They also have a breeding colony of Harbour seals and a colony of penguins, both of which you can see being fed in informative and fun displays. It is worth knowing that if you’re holidaying in winter they have discounted winter rates.

Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary is situated only 50 metres from the sea. A visit here would suit older children because the sanctuary has a strong focus on rehabilitation and release and there are good opportunities to learn about conservation. There are also resident seals, including Donna, a grey seal who has been at the sanctuary since 1983! There are also a large number of birds to see, including gulls, gannets and puffins. Adult tickets cost £6 and tickets for children aged 3 – 15 cost £3.50. 

3 Ancaster Leisure

If your kids are miniature adrenalin junkies, treat them to a day out at Ancaster Leisure. There’s a massive choice of activities here – paintball, karting, quad biking and archery to name a few. It’s the most costly day out on this list, but prices are competitive compared to similar sites in other counties. Bowling is the cheapest activity at £4 for one game on a weekday. The park is open from 9am every day except Tuesday and Wednesday.

4 Burghley House

Burghley House is a vast country house with 35 major rooms and 80 lesser rooms, all of which have been painstakingly restored. Not just for budding historians, there are lots of fun things to do here. Take lunch in the Orangery, or go for a casual stroll through the deer parkland where relaxing and unwinding is easy. For kids, though, the real draw is the Garden of Surprises! Here you’ll explore as a family discovering water jets, a moss house and a mirrored maze. The House and Gardens are open March to November. Ticket prices vary according to whether you want to just visit the gardens (£7.50 for adults and £5 for children) or both the gardens and the house (£13.00 for adults and £6.50 for children).

5 Hardy’s Animal Farm

Hardy’s Animal Farm is a 7 acre site in the Lincolnshire countryside home to lots of farm animals. Younger kids can learn and interact with cows, goats, chickens, lambs and pigs, and even take a cart ride around the farm. It’s a great place for those rainy days, as kids can wear themselves out exploring the indoor playbarn, and in the sunshine they will love the two outdoor adventure areas. Tickets cost £6.25 each, or £24 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children.

6 Skegness Pier

Nothing keeps kids better amused than a day at the beach. A visit to Skegness Pier is full of traditional seaside fun that kids will love – the amusement arcade is home to traditional slot machines, there is ten pin bowling and an exciting indoor play area known as ‘Captain Kids’. Plus, the proximity to the sandy beach means you can spend a morning enjoying dipping your toes in the sea – an activity that is always fun and free for all ages.
