Weald and Downland Open Air Museum
The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum is classic Sussex attraction that children absolutely love. The open air museum consists of lots of amazing historic buildings, ranging from the 13th century to the Victorian period, which have been relocated here from places throughout the country
Most of the buildings can be explored inside and are furnished to reflect historic interiors. There are also lots of other great things to see including farm machinery, wagons and craft items, as well as a variety of animals such as horses, pigs, sheep and cattle and a fantastic mix of landscapes to explore. Standard entry is £10.70 for adults, £5.90 for children aged 4 to 15, and free for children under 4.
Arundel Wetland Centre
Pond dipping, boat safaris, exciting outdoor play areas and a great range of wildlife including birds, water voles and dragonflies are just some of the brilliant attractions to look forward to at the Arundel Wetland Centre.
The wetland centre is also a great place for family walks, plus the opportunity to feed the resident ducks and geese by hand is sure to have youngsters quacking in delight. Standard entry is £10.86 per adult, £5.45 for children aged 4 to 16 and free for children younger than 4.
West Wittering Beach
West Wittering Beach is a national favourite, offering white sand, blue waters and great views across to Hayling Island. The beach is a Blue Flag winner for its water cleanliness as well as the winner of a Beach Award from the Tidy Britain Group thanks to its cleanliness and excellent facilities.
There are designated sections for swimming and nearby grassy areas for picnics, along with plenty of soft sand for getting busy with buckets and spades or simply lounging and enjoying some sun.
Fishers Farm Park
A fantastic farm fun awaits at Fishers Farm Park. Children will really enjoy the animal attractions here, which include animal handling sessions, live shows, as well as pig and sheep racing. There are plenty of rides on offer too such as pony rides, tractor rides and a ghost tunnel ride.
With great indoor and outdoor play areas that accommodate babies, toddlers and older kids, you’ll have difficulty getting youngsters to leave this fabulous farm. Individual tickets start at £7.75 per person and £5.75 for kids 2 years old and younger.
Arundel Lido
If you’re looking for somewhere to cool off during the hot summer days, you cannot go wrong with Arundel Lido. This open-air swimming pool is perfect for fun and games in the water and the lovely grass areas are just the place for relaxing and sunbathing.
The main open air pool is heated and there is also a children’s paddling pool. Day tickets are £6.50 for visitors over 18 years old, £4.50 for visitors aged 2 to 17 and free for kids under 2 years old.
Drusillas Park
Drusillas Park offers a wild time for animal lovers and is tailored towards kids and families, so you can be sure a visit to this small zoo will be met with squeals, roars and hoots of delight from your own family pack.
The zoo is home to a wonderful variety of animals including red pandas, monkeys, otters, penguins and meerkats to name a few. There are also plenty of interactive learning opportunities, a great indoor soft-play area, train rides and a Hello Kitty Secret Garden, so you won’t be short of exciting things to see and do. The Observatory Science Centre
If your little stars are keen to find out more about the universe, along with other amazing wonders of the sky and science, then take a trip to the Observatory Science Centre. This museum used to be the site of the Royal Observatory and contains fascinating historic telescopes as well as superb exhibitions aimed at children of all ages.
Visitors of all ages can get involved in the excellent interactive displays and have fun as they explore topics such as astronomy, forces, light and colour. Standard tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for children aged 4 to 16.
Booth Museum of Natural History
The Booth Museum of Natural History offers a quirky and unusual day out with the kids that is educational, entertaining and free.
Packed full of fossils, skeletons and bones, boasting an impressive collection of stuffed birds and more than 650 different kinds of butterflies, as well as featuring interactive displays and activities, there is something for visitors of all ages at the museum.
Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens
Fishbourne Roman Palace was built in the 1st Century AD and remains impressive to this day. There are all sorts of treasures to see here, from 2000 year old objects to stunning mosaics and beautiful gardens.
This attraction is very well laid out and is bound to capture the imaginations of children with its brilliant exhibits. Entry costs £8.70 for adults and £4.30 for children.
Tangmere Military Aviation Museum
The Tangmere Military Aviation Museum features a great collection of historic aircraft on display, as well as a variety of aviation memorabilia that range from WWI to the Cold War.
In addition to finding out about the extensive collection of aircraft visitors can also get hands-on with interactive displays and flight simulators, ensuring kids and adults will have an awesome day out. Tickets cost £9 for adults, £3 for children aged 5 to 16 and are free for kids under 5.
