From long-distance treks to short and easy strolls, our selection of favourite Norfolk walks suits a variety of fitness levels and time constraints.

Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path

Walkers who are keen to take in a range of striking landscapes and sights will enjoy Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path. This National Trail is a combination of two long-distance trails and begins at Knettishall Heath Country Park, leading to Holme-next-the-Sea where Peddars Way links to the Norfolk Coast Path, eventually ending at Cromer. The route is about 93 miles long and can be completed in about a week, although the route can be enjoyed in short sections and plenty of the shorter walks provide just as much visual appeal. The terrain is generally flat, making it suitable for a variety of fitness levels, and the route passes for the most part through the striking Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Brecks.

Blakeney Freshes

The walk around Blakeney Freshes is a picturesque coastal walk for wildlife enthusiasts and is particularly well suited to birdwatching. The route is an easy circular walk of about 3 miles that can be completed in about an hour and 45 minutes. You will pass through Blakeney village and travel past Blakeney Quay and the River Glaven. St. Nicholas' Church at the end of the route is several centuries old and is also a good place to explore after the walk.

Blickling Estate Walk

Gorgeous countryside and a variety of intriguing historical sights make the walk around the Blickling Estate a very enjoyable one. The route, which is moderate in terms of the walking grade, is around 4.5 miles and takes 2 hours to complete. You will see Blickling Hall in the distance as you begin the walk which takes you past an 18th century inn, a church which originally dated from the 13th to 15th century, as well as a tower and a mausoleum, both of which date from the 18th century. The route takes you through a meadow and spectacular woodland and is a great choice for walkers who want to combine beautiful natural landscapes with intriguing historical architecture.

The Boudicca Way

The Boudicca Way is around 36 miles long, running from Diss to Norwich. The route passes through South Norfolk’s beautiful countryside and the Waveney Valley and is divided into four sections which can be enjoyed as shorter walks. In addition there are a variety of local circular walks for each section, so you can tailor your walking trail to a distance that suits you. Along the way you can visit a number of lovely towns and villages that lie on or close to the route. The area around the route also offers a number of interesting historical and architectural attractions to explore such as the sites of an ancient hill fort and a Roman villa.

Barton Broad Boardwalk

Barton Broad is the Ant Valley’s biggest broad and a variety of wildlife live within the surrounding landscape including otters, herons, swallowtail butterflies and ducks. The Barton Broad Boardwalk offers a relaxing and beautiful 1.5-mile walk through fen woodland where you might spot the local wildlife if you’re lucky. The boardwalk is suitable for wheelchair use and there are places to rest en route. The route provides a striking panoramic view of the broad and is ideal for a laidback stroll that suits all fitness levels.
