Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding PitchesDec 2023

Arrived on the 26th of December, on a fine sunny afternoon. No one was around to meet, register in with or show me where the facilities were. It was only another guest who pointed out the water-fill hose pipe, which had tiny holes in. So I parked the motorhome where I could find a space with an electric hook-up. Once parked and hooked to the electric, this kept cutting out power around the campsite many times throughout the night and next morning. So I had to switch the motorhome power back to the gas bottles. Overnight, the wind and rain lashed down on the site with over 80 mph gusts, as the site is nearly on the side of a mountain. The wind was rocking the motorhome. I got up early the next morning and left the site around 8.30, when it was daylight, as the road is a narrow dirt track. The site would be best stayed at during the Spring/Summer and Autumn months, I did not think it was suitable for Winter. I did not see anyone in the morning to say I was leaving, or have the breakfast that was included in the £40 I paid to stay the one night.

A site full of character!

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesDec 2023

Beautiful location for walking, cycling, touring or just chilling. The views over Stathblane and the Campsies are stunning and at night the valley lights twinkle. You have breakfast (toast and cereals) included in the pitch fee and you can eat it in the main house or takeaway. Evening meals can be ordered. Haggis/steak/burger/hummus, plus a children's menu. They do pizzas in summer. We ate at the big communal table in the house which lets you meet other guests. It was quiet when we were there (Dec) but it will be crowded in March, so best to book ahead.

Twin Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesNov 2023

West Highland Way is in a lovely location on the edge of Blanefield, with great access to some great walks and not far from local services. The caravan side of this site seems to be in it's infancy and I felt it had lots to improve on. The electrics (16A) were troublesome to say the least. When I raised the issue with the owner, I was told not to use a domestic kettle and, now that I knew where the main fuse was, I could help myself if it needs resetting. I turned everything to gas (the heating was already on gas) apart from the TV. The problem continued. If I reset the trip once, I did it a dozen times. This was at the main fuse board and not at the hook-up point. I didn't think this was good enough. The shower/toilet areas had plenty of hot water but the areas had little, or no heating and were, at times dirty. On one occasion it looked like someone had washed their dog in there. There was mould on the ceilings and a light sensor was hanging, with the wires clearly on view. The Elsan point was a 110mm pipe with a cap cover, there was no water at hand to flush the waste or for cleaning. There are a few older static caravans and there are also touring vans. A real shame for this site, it has so much potential but I felt it needs to radically improve. Sadly it is not a site we will return to.

Not quite what we expected

Medium Tent - Non Electric Wild Camping PitchesOct 2023

Although picturesque - we felt that was about it. The "laundry facilities" are only if the housekeeper can get to your stuff that day - and you'd have to leave it with her. The showers are ok, one of us had a cold shower though. The owner was not available until after 12.30 both days so no one was around to help with check ins. We were told we could stay with the vanlifers or up on the Mountain View. We chose Mountain View which, in the torrential rain, became a swamp. Upon leaving, we noticed the woodland area that would have been much nicer, and had other campers on it, but hadn't been mentioned to us. Overall, for the money, we were not impressed. The only thing that saved it was that we could go inside from the rain for a coffee but we didn't feel it was the most welcoming of atmospheres. The "restaurant" is a kitchen through a hatch that cost £15 for soup or dessert and £30 for mains.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Woodland PitchesSep 2023

A very friendly place to stay the night mid-route. Owner and chef both very helpful and personable. Great evening meals available. An excellent self-service continental breakfast was included in the fee which was a lovely surprise. Plenty of spaces both in and outside to relax too. A great view to wake up to. Highly recommended.

Highly recommend

We were very pleased with the welcome from Andrew and the relaxed atmosphere. The surrounding area was stunning. We were especially pleased to find good was cooked on site snd we're not disappointed with the steak, chips snd salad! The house was beautiful and the ladies shower and toilet facilities in there were very good. My husband had a cold shower in the shower block though!

Gorgeous find!!

Lovely site in breathtaking surroundings. Has everything you need and more for a site. You can also get the addition of food if you require and a free continental breakfast. Excellent location for West Highland Way. Would definitely stay again.

Small Tent - Non Electric Wild Camping PitchesSep 2023

I arrived late evening and went into reception where I met the owner Andrew. He was very welcoming and immediately checked if I needed food or any help. My own dog met his own dogs and were able to have a play and wander around (the site was quiet so they were not a nuisance to anyone). The site is just beautiful, lit at night with outdoor lighting around the patio area and just beautiful as a building in daylight. There is coffee/tea available all day and breakfast is included. A real gem of a site and we will definitely be back.

An experience with a wonderful view and warm welcome

Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding PitchesSep 2023

My review would say much the same as many of the guests, and I imagine that the owner is taken notice of them all. Yes, the owner personally welcomed us to the site, and told us we could choose any pitch. We have a motorhome and a disabled granddaughter so we chose one fairly close to the "hotel". The view was certainly very good. The hotel building is very pleasant and totally unlike anything I have experienced on what is really a campsite. We can see that a lot of thought has gone into the project, and it does seem to be work in progress. The interior of the hotel is done up like a hunting lodge which is very inviting, with a café space and facilities for teas and coffees all day, and a breakfast in the morning. On our visit we only saw toast and porridge, but we had already eaten in the van. Along with many of the other guests, as a camper I know the facilities I want and need. They are not plush interiors with fancy painting, but the basics, that is a proper toilet block, hot showers at all times of the day, especially after hard exercise, dishwashing facilities, and a sufficient number of water stand points to know that you have water all the time, and you don't have to walk too far from your unit. As we had a child with us, one thing which would have been extremely welcome was a proper kids' play area, where children could safely play without constant supervision. Tree swings or tyre swings can be fun but for some children, also hazardous. Would I visit again? Yes I think so, as I can see that the owner is trying to create a pleasant and welcoming site, and does seem to be aware of the current areas which require addressing. Thank you again, Drew, for a very peaceful stay.

Medium Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

Set in a beautiful location and the first night was quiet so no issues using facilities. However, Saturday was extremely busy and it then became apparent there weren't enough for the whole campsite. Not great. Also, really dirty due to the amount of traffic. Really not impressed with the cost versus the facilities.

Excellent view and lovely house but clearly starting to become run down. Toilets and showers are dirty and covered in black mould. Breakfast involved paper plates and frozen bread.

Good site with lots of people doing different things. Motorhome, caravans, their own tents and the site's bell tents.

Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding PitchesAug 2023

Absolutely so disappointed ☹️ We left at 7:30am the next day giving up our second night stay. The facilities were disgusting! Used by both sexes and smelled of stale urine. The ceiling in the shower room was covered in dampness! The building inside where you ate was musty and damp smelling. The site itself was crammed with tents, yurts, caravans, motorhomes and camper vans. Definitely not enough toilet and shower facilities for that amount of people. It was overcrowded and felt like a money making scheme. The description on the website definitely does not match what you see when you arrive. Bins were overflowing also. Meals were overpriced and also a service charge added! The breakfast that was included was continental that you had to make yourself, bread for toast, tea/coffee yogurt and pastries (shop bought not fresh). Do not stay here unless you want to be overcharged for poor facilities!

Medium Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

Although a nice location (good for visiting lake Lochmond area or Glasgow), absolutely not a place to go camping. The 'pitches' are to close together and unorganised. Too few sanitary facilities for the people visiting and all sanitary is very unclean. Not to mention the cold showers. The place needs more taking care of.

Beautiful setting

Aug 2023

This community has an organic & collaborative feel to it. It's an all-inclusive site - including nice hot showers, breakfast, and free tea & coffee etc through the day - just help yourself. There's meals available in the evening, which you'd need to pay for if you don't want to cook. Stay a night, stay a week, stay five months - backpacking walkers / cyclists, car & tent, "rent a tent" glamping, caravans, motorhomes, campervans - you'll find them all here. There is recharging power available in the club house, and many pitches have power outlets. Some dedicated electric car recharging points. It's nice to talk to so many of our European friends here too. Dogs are very welcome, and off-lead if well behaved. The site has a handful of chocolate Labradors including Cybil, Basil, and the adorable puppy Manuel. All very well behaved. Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend. I'll be sad to leave - and I don't like most campsites at all. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend.

Very bad experience

Medium Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023

We spent three nights at this campsite, after having book a grassland pitch with electricity for a medium tent and payed for a medium tent, breakfast included. The location is pleasant, in a village in the far suburbs of Glasgow. However, we were very disappointed by the offered services. The campsite was over-busy, all arrivals seemed to be accepted, regardless of the available infrastructure. Half of the pitches are in an undergrowth (no grass at all), some tarpaulins being even used to limit mud problems in case of too much rain. We counted 107 occupied pitches. The breakfast was continental, jams, toasts and packaged croissants. The owner's dogs were freely roaming in the campsite, with the consequences that you can imagine. Finally, we had a very, very bad reception, simply because we politely asked for the possibility of having electricity as promised (and paid for). Our stay was during the world cycling championship period, but we don't think this is a valuable reason and the explanation of our bad experience. Consideration for the camper is clearly not a priority in this establishment. So sad to end our stay in Scotland with this bad experience while we met so many lovely people during our 2 weeks trip.

Characterful site

I would like to thank Andrew for accommodating everyone on the busiest weekend at the world cycling championships. His is usually a thankless task.

Shepherd's Hut - Bell Tents (5m)Jul 2023

We were staying in the bell tent (2 people). £80 for one night and had damp bed covers, it is a bit much as after all, it's only a tent. Beautiful setting, lovely area, food rather expensive but when you've nowhere else to go, you really need to pay it.

Spectacular views

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesJul 2023

A nice park run by nice people. Spectacular views although a lot of very narrow roads to get there a bit daunting for motor homers. However, it was worth the journey, my only complaint would be if the price of stuff in their dining room. I mean, £20 for a burger and chips and £30 for a small steak and chips. Overhaul, worth the trip but take your own food for your evening meal.

Nice campsite with a good view

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding PitchesMay 2023

We didn't feel that this location was ready to receive guests and felt it was poorly managed. The meals provided by the chef, however, were excellent.
