Bognor Regis Pier

Our top 10 things to do in Bognor Regis

The quaint seaside town of Bognor Regis on the idyllic shores of West Sussex has a surprisingly long list of things to do for a small town. Situated just 60 miles from the UK’s capital, its many delights are easily accessible to camping families who would like to escape the big smog for a short while and explore the scenic South Downs National Park.

Bognor Regis, also known as the ‘country’s sunshine capital’ receives more sunny days than any other part of the UK. While the town is now a tourist hotspot, it has still managed to retain the traditional charm of its seafront. Interested? Read our guide to find out some top things to do in Bognor Regis.

1. Bognor Regis Pier

Since it first opened in 1865, the Bognor Regis Pier (pictured above) has been a focal point along the seafront and a hub for locals and tourists. The Grade II listed building now houses arcade games, a bar and snooker club and even a nightclub, ClubV.

2. Bognor Birdman

Bognor Birdman, a free annual event held at the Bognor Regis pier, attracts thousands of visitors every summer. The Birdman is a competition between human powered flight machines. The machines and their flyers, including Richard Branson in 2003, often take part to raise money for charity.

3. Hotham Park

This park, located just east of the town centre, was once a part of the estate belonging to Bognor’s founder, Sir Richard Hotham. Today, Hotham Park is a thriving, modern patch of countryside, complete with a boating lake, crazy golf course, mini railway and playgrounds for the kids.

4. Bognor Regis Museum

Situated on West Street at the former Berkeley Arms open house is the Bognor Regis Museum. Step back in time to explore the town’s seaside past and the life of its people. Fascinating exhibitions include wireless and television models from the 1920s onwards.

5. Regis Centre

The Regis Centre, also known as the Alexandra Theatre, was first opened in 1977 by HRH Princess Alexandra herself. Today, the centre is the cornerstone of Bognor Regis’ creative community with an art gallery, classical music evenings and a varied play roster throughout the year.

6. Picturedrome Cinema

The Picturedome Cinema, which was first opened in 1919, has managed to survive as a beautiful, little independent cinema for all these years with a flat rate price of only £2.50! The cinema’s varied schedule includes current movie hits alongside opera broadcasts, world cinema screenings and classical music events.

7. Bognor Regis Golf Club

Although the scenic golf course is run by its members, the Bognor Regis Golf Club welcomes visitors to its pristine greens and fairways after prior arrangements with the clubs office. Enjoy spending the afternoon teeing off in the sunniest spot in the UK.

8. Butlins

Located on Upper Bognor Road is the family-family entertainment hotspot, Butlins. With decades of experience in entertaining guests, Butlins is a great day out for the whole family. There are plenty of rides, a waterworld, funfairs and other amusements that are bound to please the kids.

9. East Beach

Travel to Bognor Regis’ most popular beach, which is just a short walk away from many of the town’s campsites around Lidsey Street and Shripney Road. After a few hours exploring the pier and boats, visitors can relax with a hired deckchair on the beach during the summer months and watch calm waves lapping onto shore.

10. Marine Park Gardens

After a long day of dashing around the beach, head slightly inland to the Marine Park Gardens for a little relaxation amongst its colourful flower beds and water features. While you give your feet a much needed rest, the park’s 18-hole putting green will keep any active youngsters amused.

As this guide demonstrates, even the smallest of towns along the British coastline are filled with things to do for all ages. Expect all your lovely, quintessential seaside treats at Bognor Regis alongside a few unique attractions and quirky events. If you would like to explore further afield, this seaside town is the perfect base for exploring nearby Chichester, Brighton and the South Downs National Park.
