Nice site but too many add-ons and you can't control the weather

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesApr 2024
The site is located within a valley that seemingly has its own little microclimate. We stayed 2 of 3 nights and packed up early as unfortunately, the weather absolutely destroyed our tent. Obviously this is no fault of Humble Bee Farm, but I feel that people should be warned that prior to staying here, if you are in a tent, or on a pitch, check the wind forecast in advance! We asked others around us as well; one van had to re-orientate itself, another said there was 4 in their bed due to the noise of the wind flapping the tent.
It's so unfortunate as the site is absolutely lovely - and I'm really not sure there's a lot they can do about it other than building massive wind breaks between pitches (if such a thing even exists).
Facilities spotlessly clean. Admittedly, there are only 2 showers in the block nearest the pitches. There's a lot of people vying for those showers as there's around 30 huts(?!) close by.
One thing I really didn't agree with is the cost for Wi-Fi. The site knows it's in a signal-less area and I felt that £4 for 24h was extortionate.
I also felt that the bar, although lovely, was also on the pricey side for drinks and food. The pizzas especially seemed expensive.
The farm is absolutely idyllic though, and it's perfectly situated for lots of local attractions. It's their boon really, and it certainly is a pull for kids and parents. There is lots of information and activities available on the farm too for one of those lazy days.
To summarize; we would definitely return to the site in one of the huts, but we won't be bringing a tent back.
Site's response
Thank you for staying with us here at Humble Bee Farm. As with all reviews, we would like to respond to all comments.
We are sorry you packed up early due to the weather. As you say, we don't control the climate, so of course we are sorry to read the weather was against you.
You mention that people should be warned prior to staying here. As with most campers, caravanners or similar, then we would hope that most guests keep a close eye on the weather forecast. As you can appreciate, this is camping and with it comes some elements, which would be common to most campsites: flapping tents, rainfall even strong winds, etc. As you go on to say in your review, while we understand the weather can be a challenge, it is something we cannot control, no matter how many times it is mentioned or deemed an issue.
We would like to correct you re: number of toilets. There are indeed two toilets (and shower facilities) in the top block near reception; there is the main shower block which includes three toilets in the male and female facilities (& showers) and there is an additional family/accessible shower room including a loo. Also while you mention '30 huts', perhaps you are unaware that a proportion of them are ensuite, and therefore do not usually use the communal facilities.
With regards to Wi-Fi & the cost, our Wi-Fi is superfast and, as we believe in offering our guests good facilities, we have invested in our very own Wi-Fi provision including its infrastructure etc. We are sorry you felt the Wi-Fi cost was expensive. It is worth noting there is phone signal coverage at the top of the site which customers can use if needed.
With regards to your comments about the costs of food and drink. The Hive Café Bar is an exclusive facility for our lovely guests (except during our two open events in March and October). As such, this facility is provided along with a fully trained team, a range of cocktails and barista coffee and freshly prepared pizzas. Given The Hive gives guests to the option of staying onsite for either their evening meal or breakfast, then we feel this option is both convenient and helpful to our guests, meaning they don't have to book somewhere to eat off site (although they can do this if they would like to of course, and we provide a list of places to eat). The cost of the pizza is reasonable for a freshly prepared food item and it takes into account the onsite service we offer, including sourcing ingredients, food preparation, cooking and presenting it to the guest.
We thank you for saying how idyllic the farm is and how perfect our location is for families. We are very blessed with our location too, being so close to Filey and Scarborough.
Thank you again from everyone at Humble Bee Farm.
Great little park but not much to do in the winter

Pod - Big Chief WigwamsOct 2023
We arrived at 2:15pm and although we knew we were early, we thought we might be able to check in early. We were told we had to wait til bang on 3pm and were welcome to go for a walk, except it was pouring down so we sat in our car for 45 mins.
Accommodation was exactly as expected and had plenty of storage for bags and suitcases. The electrics went down on day 2 and it did take about 40 minutes to get this resolved, which was annoying as we couldn't feed the kids and it started to get cold with no heating.
Biggest annoyance was having to pay for WiFi. Luckily we had booked on the Halloween trail so gained access to the WiFi that way. WiFi is a must to keen the kids entertained on their tablets whilst the weather was bad or we were cooking.
All in all, it was a great stay but just let down by the few issues we had. Would probably return in the summer when you're not restricted to staying indoors for the majority of your stay.
Site's response
Hello and thank you for visiting Humble Bee Farm.
We appreciate your review and will take all comments on board.
We try to be as informative as possible when communicating with our guests, including having our check in times on booking confirmations and the handy guide which is sent out to you via email prior to arrival.
We are sorry to hear it was raining when you arrived. Our location is great for families, being 15 minutes from the coast, a lot of our visitors head there prior to checking in, or we do offer our onsite walks whilst you wait.
Due to our rural location, we do have to supply a lease line to the site, which is new for 2023. This does come with a huge cost to the business, and is optional for our guests. Many of our guests enjoy an unplugged experience whilst they are with us.
We are very proud of our onsite facilities, which include our farm yard gang, indoor mini bees play barn, sports field and play area, reflection garden, the hive café bar and 3 onsite rambles.
We hope you might visit in the Summer and experience our Summer events plan and hopefully a better forecast.
Best wishes, Team Humble Bee
The perfect little getaway

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2023
Gorgeous little site with multiple types of accommodation.
Our only regret is staying in our own tent! We now wish we'd booked one of their beautiful lodges. It was a lovely and peaceful site, very quiet and picturesque. The showers and toilets were the best I've ever seen and nicer than my home bathroom.
There's a play park and nature walk for kids. Although I don't have kids, it was great to see families catered for. The ladies in reception were lovely, extremely knowledgeable about the local area and nothing was ever too much trouble! We loved visiting the animals too. 100000/10 - we will stay again and probably book their accommodation next time!
